Day 30 Natchez, MS. And historical Natchez Trace Parkway

Departed from
 And we entered
To head downtown to see the historical part of town. We visited a few places on this warm sunny day.
An old plantation

Where slavery used to be alive until after the civil war.

Downtown natchez The oldest town on the Mississippi River!

The Mississippi River where to the north it takes you to Minnosota and to the south it takes you to the rest of the world.
The section we are visiting
Then onto a freed slaves' home. He then became a slave owner himself as it was a status symbol at the time to own slaves. He was a barber, diarist, and business man that was respected in town.

Touring his home. He had eleven children and ten slaves.

Walking along the bluffs

Before walking down to "under the hill" street where steamboats would drop off and pickup people and supplies

Lunch

The drive up the parkway today was it beautiful. We passed very few cars and the entire drive was smooth. There are few roads that cross the pkwy and commercial vechicals are not allowed. It's a great way to cut across a state.

This was our first stop. The original road which has been worn down by the weight of so many for 100s of years traveling across. Mile 40

Our second stop at mile 120 for a little walk and stretch.

The swamp is so beautiful

Now we are camping at stinkin Jim's horse camp. Ella picked up a cold while at church Sunday so she is not feeling well. Currently she is asleep and I hope she gets well soon.

Day 29 Tabasco factory, Natchez MS.

We began the day with a nice walk. We really love this area since it is so different than what we are used too. It's also the perfect time to visit since it is not hot and most of the Mosquitos are gone.

This is what we like seeing. Swamps and forests of trees in water.

Our first visit was the Tabasco Factory. They grow a small portion of their peppers here while the majority are grown in South America. It's still very much a family business.
The air smelled of peppers!
In the museum
Yay! Samples
Bottling Tabasco

The island is an active salt mine and the salt that they extract is over 98% pure. It was the first salt mine in the US.

We met a nice fellow who was interested in seeing our airstream and in return he offered us these treats! The people are nice and the accents are thick! We must be in the south. 😀
Then we got the trailer new tires! Yay four new tires for Christmas! 🎄🎅
Thankfully, we bought new tires because the remaining roads out of Louisiana were HORRIBLE!

The evenings' geography lesson.
Look we still have three more states to drive through!

We are currently in Natchez, Mississippi. At the state park out of town.
